Jessica Law, PRESIDENT
Program and Year Food Science, 4th year
What promoted you to enter your program?
I honestly did not know what I wanted to do until the end of second year when we had to apply for majors. I picked Food Science because there are so many different aspects to it whether it be packaging, processing, research and development, quality assurance, or sensory analysis.
Many people do not know that food science is all around them. The club helps promote awareness plus we get to help arrange tours to go see how our food is processed, made or packaged.
Favourite class: FNH 200 because it exposes a lot of different food science aspects.
Favourite food: I would have to pick a dessert because there’s always room in your stomach for it, tuxedo cake.
Hobbies and other interesting facts:
I love being outside, soccer, hiking, biking are my favourite activities. I also do not own a pair of rain boots even though I go to UBC.

Crystal Lee, SECETARY
Program and Year Food, Nutrition, and Health, 4th Year
What promoted you to enter your program?
Often when I was younger, I just eat what is provided what I feel like having. Not until I started cooking for myself I realize the importance of a well-balanced diet. I wanted to understand the every little detail of our body metabolism, and how different nutrients affect our body and health. I would also love to spread these important information to people in need.
Why are you in the food science club?
To expand my knowledge in food science and have it complement my degree. I thought this could also be a good chance to meet people who have the same interest or background as me(which came true!! :D)
Favourite class
FNH 355: It was interesting to learn about the food culture of some developing countries. Also, the nutrient deficiencies they are suffering from are sometimes what we never expect to occur. It constantly reminded me we are fortunate to be worry-free about our food.
FNH 200: This course was my first exposure to food science and I was in love with it! It was fascinating to learn about the scientific reactions happening behind some everyday food and several common food preservation techniques.
